Grace Withrow Turner
May 28, 1914 – December 12, 2017
Grace Withrow Turner, 103 passed away on December 12, 2017 in Holdenville, Oklahoma.  Born May 28, 1914 in Lane, Oklahoma to Alvie Clement Withrow and Lillie Pearl Howell Withrow.  Her family moved to the Calvin Community on a farm in the fall of 1919 from Atoka.  Grace started school in Calvin by covered wagon transportation in September 1922.  She graduated from Calvin High School in 1934 as Valedictorian of the class. 

She married Porter Monroe Turner on January 26, 1938 in Allen, Oklahoma.  The couple moved to Brentwood, California to work.  In the spring and summer months Grace would work in the fruit and vegetable packing sheds, in the fall she worked in the English Walnut harvest.  After four years, they returned to a farm near Stuart, Oklahoma.  In 1946, the couple bought their own farm east of Calvin which became the home of her two sons.  Grace worked hard doing farm labor, worked as a waitress and cook in the Dairy Mart Café for 17 years, also as  a teacher’s aide in head start Summer Program at Calvin Schools.  She later worked as a home health provider. 

Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, canning and crocheting. She started volunteering at the Senior Citizens Center in 1993.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Calvin and taught Sunday School for children’s class for several years.    Grace loved her family and greatly appreciated all the thoughtful and kind deeds done for her in her long life.  She asked that God richly bless each of you according to His will. 

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and three sisters, great-grandson William Edwin Isaiah Alexander.

Survivors include two sons; Preston Maurice Turner and wife Gayla of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma, Jerrell Edwin Turner and wife Marge of Calvin, Oklahoma, grandchildren Susan Jerree Alexander and husband Jesse of Atwood, Jerred Matthew Turner and wife Lindsey of Calvin, grandchildren Tamatha Smith and husband Kenny of Noble, Julie Crawford of Midwest City, Erik Friend and wife Tara of Oklahoma City, Todd Friend and wife Stacy and Ryan Friend and wife Kate of Ft. Gibson, great-grandchildren Stacia and Jayda Crawford, Madelyn, Ellie and Chloe Smith, Olivia Alexander, Matthew, Anastasia Grace Turner, Jonathan Friend, William Friend, Ava Friend, Jaxon Friend, Dax Friend, Alice Friend, Heidi Grace Friend, Ion Friend, Rori Friend, and Emory Friend, sister Bernice Davie of Mayfield, Kentucky, sister-in-law Marselete Ingram of Okmulgee, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service is scheduled for 1:30pm on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Calvin.  Bro. Jeff Jackson will officiate the service assisted by Bro. Curtis Stoll.  Interment will follow at the Hill Top Cemetery in Calvin.  Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville.  Online condolences to the family can be made at
