Michael Anthony Martin
August 22, 1969 – October 5, 2017
Michael Anthony Martin, a resident of Oklahoma City, passed away surrounded by family at his family’s home in Holdenville on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the age of 48 years.
Michael was one of four sons of Robert James Martin & Zelta Lorene (Sexton) Martin, born on August 22, 1969, in Houston, Texas. In his early years he was brought up in Amarillo, Texas, and later moved with his family to Meeker, Oklahoma. After high school Michael moved to Houston, Texas, where he honed his skills as a master floor and stone mason. It was a lifelong profession in which he excelled, and some of his work is displayed in a beautiful depiction of doves in tile art at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Michael was a very talented and artistic person. He played tenor saxophone in his high school band, and could play any instrument by ear. In recent years, he enjoyed playing music with his nephews at family gatherings. He was a passionate fisherman, carried his fishing gear with him at all times and always took the opportunity to fish any time and anywhere he could – especially at his very favorite place, Aunt Bessie’s pond in Spaulding. Always seeking new and greater thrills, he recently took up skydiving with some of his friends, and said it was the best “high” he had ever experienced.
Michael had a high-spirited, energetic personality that was infectious and lit up the room when he walked in. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Bobby Palmer.
He is survived by six siblings: Tom Sexton (Connie) of Shallow Water TX, Robbie Crauthers (Thomas) of Oklahoma City, Tonya Sanders (Steve) of Spaulding, J. C. Martin of Lubbock TX, Janay Richards (Tim) of Salem OR, and Robert Martin of Spaulding; two aunts, Bessie Allen and Onita Foran, both of Spaulding; his biological father, Steve Haylock, and Steve’s sister Lily, both of New Braunfels TX; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 9, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Fisher Funeral Home’s Lillye Chapel, with Rev. Rick Talley officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Chris Crauthers, Ashley Crauthers, Johnathan Martin, Jacob Sexton, Dakota Martin, and Dillon Palmer.
