Melvin Eugene Hooks

Melvin Eugene Hooks was born August 25, 1948 in Holdenville, Oklahoma.  He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 28, 2017 at the age of 68 years.  He was the son of IJ and Bernice (Olden) Hooks.

He married Patricia Ann Tiger on August 5, 1995 in Holdenville Okla.  He was an active member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.  He worked continually in service to the Lord.  Mr. Hooks served  as the Church Deacon and Trustee.  He graduated from Moss High School.  After

 

wards, he graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton with his associate’s degree.  He joined the United States Army where he served our country honorably.  Melvin was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  He worked as a supervisor for Covey Company and later for Solo Cup Company in Ada until his retirement.  Loving the outdoors, Melvin enjoyed hunting and fishing but nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews eating ice cream and sharing a good laugh.  He was always smiling and loved to joke with his friends and family.

Melvin Hooks loved the Lord, his family, his Pastor and his church.  He was truly a man of God who loved everyone who came into his presence.  His soul purpose in life was to live for the Lord, take care of his family and be pattern of good works.  He will be greatly missed by his loving children, his family, his church family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, IJ Hooks and Bernice Hooks, daughter Shannon, son Durell, granddaugher Kianna, grandson

 

Terrell, and brother Michael Hooks.

He is survived by his loving children, son Stanley Lincoln and son Emery Lincoln both of Holdenville, daughter Erica Hooks of Oklahoma City, daughter-in-law Laura of Holdenville, grandchildren: Shannon, Savannah, Stuart, Sophia, Kianna, Aniyah, Tyrell, Harley, Michael, Shilynn, Kaylee and Alysa, siblings Earl Hooks Sr. of Jones, Doyle (Linda) Hooks of Spencer, Judy Jones, Belinda Travis, Wilma (John) Berry, Danny and Michelle (Wiley) Madden all of Holdenville as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Shiloh Baptist E. T. C. O. G. I. C. in Holdenville.  Overseer John T. Berry will officiate the service.  Pallbearers will be his beloved nephews.  Honorary bearers will be Corey Madden, Ray Dyer, Earl Hooks Sr., Doyle Hooks Sr. Interment will follow at the Shiloh Church Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.  Online condolences to the family can be made at www.phillipsfuneralservice.com.
