John Vincent Shepherd Jr.
John Vincent Shepherd Jr., 70 passed away on June 17, 2017 in Holdenville. He was born August 25, 1946 in Woodward, Oklahoma to John and Helen (Smith) Shepherd Sr. He attended school in Fargo, Oklahoma and after graduation he went on to complete Gradwohl Lab School in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned his degree as a Registered Medical Technician then began his career in Shawnee at ACH Hospital in 1965. John met the love of his life, Rejina in June 1967 at the Sonic Drive-In in Shawnee. They were married on October 20, 1967. The hospitals in Shawnee combined and John worked for Shawnee Medical Centers which is now St. Anthony of Shawnee. John went to work for Holdenville Hospital in April 1970 as the Lab Supervisor. He worked there until his retirement in May 2014 after 44 years of dedicated service. He was a Little League Baseball Coach, Cubmaster, Webelos Leader, Elks Exalted Ruler, Elks Officer and coach and loved to square dance. His hobbies included golfing, fishing and most of all playing and teasing with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Shepherd.

Survivors include his wife, Rejina of the home, sons John V. Shepherd III and wife Kristi of Valliant, Grady Shepherd and wife Danielle of Holdenville, grandchildren Heather Shepherd and fiance Brandon Hall of Lubbock, Texas, John V. Shepherd IV of Valliant, Colton Shepherd, Cale Shepherd and Darcy Shepherd all of Holdenville, great-grandson Cade Shepherd, sisters Una Covalt of Pampa, Texas, Sissy Sexton and husband JT of Amarillo, Texas, Pat Holmes of Fargo, brother-in-law Jerry Collum and wife Debbie of Blanchard, as well several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service is scheduled for 11:00AM on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Holdenville. Pastor David Jenkins will officiate the service assisted by Rev. Dane Robinson and Bill Robinson. Pallbearers will be Joel Sexton, Brent “Mert” Rogers, Justin Sexton, Monte Covalt, Johnny Covalt, John Lee Maggard and Pat Holmes. Honorary bearers will be Dusty Maggard, Roger Evans, Earl Dunkleburger, Dean Goforth, Tony Mooney, Jack King, David Fischer, Dale Schmitz, Mark Brannon, JT Sexton, and Joey Youngblood. Interment will follow at the Holdenville Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home in Holdenville. Online condolences to the family can be made at
